Get involved with the Guernsey Welfare Service
Covid-19 Update - Due to social distancing and other restrictions we are using a small number of volunteers throughout this time. Our regular collection and sorting volunteers are collecting and bagging items for us and Swoffers staff are doing our deliveries. Our evening food waste collections are on hold. Should we require additional volunteers, we are likely to recruit via St John's Community Support. We are not actively recruiting new Linking Lives and Nightstop volunteers at the moment, but please do still message to register an interest and we will get back to you when those services are re-established.
Thank you for showing an interest in volunteering for Guernsey Welfare. There are various volunteer opportunities, please complete the contact form below telling us which area you are interested in volunteering for and we will get back in touch with you.
Foodbank and Food waste
We need people to help collect foodbank and food waste items from various supermarkets around the Island and bring them to our offices in Trinity Square. At the moment we have a particular need for help on a Wednesday morning and Thursday (8.45 pm) and Sunday (7.15 pm) evenings. This will take 30 to 45 minutes. You need to be a car driver and able to lift heavy items. If you are interested in being involved please contact Sue via the contact form below and she will send you a Volunteer Job Description.
Volunteers would need to be able to commit to visiting their Link friend for 1-2 hours, either weekly or fortnightly. You do not need any special skills as full training and support will be given. References and a police check will also be required prior to beginning visits. If you would like to receive a volunteer pack with more information then please contact Jessica via the contact form below.
In 2020 we are hoping to recruit more Nightstop Host volunteers. These are people who are willing to host a young person aged 16-25 for 1-3 nights at a time. Volunteers need references plus various checks including DBS and full training is given. Please contact Sue via the contact form below if you would like to receive more information about the role of Volunteer Host.
